Our Story

Every great adventure starts with a single snowflake.

Connecting children with the natural world, one character, one habitat, one adventure at a time.

Some people remember the exact moment winter became magic.

For K.M. Gallagher, it happened on the slopes of Lost Valley in Maine — skis on for the first time, cold air on cold cheeks, and a whole mountain world suddenly opening up. That love of winter, of the outdoors, of the particular hush that falls over the world when snow arrives, never went away.

It still hasn’t. Every year, without fail, the first flake of the season brings the same feeling it always did. Wonder. Excitement. A quiet kind of joy that’s hard to explain to someone who hasn’t felt it.

Stanley the Snowflake grew from that feeling.

The idea was simple: what if children could meet winter the way a child in Maine meets it — not as something cold and inconvenient, but as something alive and worth celebrating?

What if a little snowflake could show them how extraordinary our planet is, how delicately everything connects, and how even the smallest among us — a single flake, a single child — can make a difference?

That’s Stanley. And Stanley is just the beginning.

The Eco-Friends series was born from a belief that children who fall in love with the natural world will grow up wanting to protect it. Not out of fear or obligation — but out of genuine, joyful, lifelong wonder.

Each character in the series lives in a different corner of our planet: a snowflake in the mountains, a coral in the Caribbean, a raindrop in the rainforest. Each one has a story, a world, and an invitation for children to explore, observe, and care.

If you’re a parent, a teacher, a grandparent, a ski instructor, or simply someone who still looks up when the first snow begins to fall — welcome. You already understand what this is about.

Stanley can’t wait to meet your little explorer.

Commitment to Transparency

How We Work

Eco-Friends Publishing was founded with one simple mission: to help children fall in love with the natural world.

As a small independent publisher, we use artificial intelligence as one of several creative tools in our publishing process. AI has enabled us to transform years of research, storytelling, educational planning, and artistic direction into books that would otherwise have been beyond our financial reach.

Every story, educational concept, character, habitat, and conservation message is created, directed, reviewed, and refined by our founder. AI assists in the illustration process, but it does not replace the human creativity, editorial judgment, scientific research, or educational intent behind each book.

We recognize that AI raises important questions about technology, energy use, and the future of creative work. We also respect the concerns many professional illustrators have raised, and we follow that conversation with genuine care.

Transparency is the right approach, which is why we openly disclose our use of AI while remaining committed to using these tools thoughtfully and responsibly as they continue to evolve.

Above all, we hope these books inspire children to explore outdoors, appreciate wildlife, care for ecosystems, and become lifelong stewards of our planet.

If our stories encourage even one child to develop a deeper connection with nature, we believe they have fulfilled their purpose.
